One small carrot should be sufficient for the quantity in this recipe. Lotus root with peanuts is one of my favourite Chinese soups. Lotus root and peanuts is a great pairing in a Chinese soup, and personally I won't cook this dish if I ran out of peanuts. I love the texture of slightly crunchy peanuts so if you like softer ones, you will need to simmer the soup for a bit longer. Peanuts and lotus root pair well together for this soup.
How to Boost Your Mood with Food
For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could improve your mood. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming a couple of eggs to cheer up!
Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.
Some grains are actually wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping increase your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you know green tea can help improve your mood as well!
