How to Elevate Your Mood with Food
Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that really can raise your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at beating back depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Eat a few eggs to cheer up!
Put together a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to combat depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.
Grains can be wonderful for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can be terrible! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest them faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is really good for your mood. You were just anticipating to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time calming your body.
