Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood

For the most part, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. There are several foods that basically can boost your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Try eating an egg and jolly up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel happier. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.

Grains can be wonderful for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you are starving! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try some of these instead!
