Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food
For the most part, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to eat. Several foods actually do elevate your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at dealing with depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for boosting your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Consume an egg and be happy!
Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.
If you want to overcome depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.
Some grains are really great for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine.
