Foods That Make Your Mood Better
A lot of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you consume them, may improve your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are wonderful at fighting depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating an egg and be happy!
Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to beat back depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.
Some grains are really wonderful for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping increase your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel terrible! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods as well!
