Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Many of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we need to stay away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super healthy and good for you. There are some foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are wonderful at fighting depression. You must be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating a few eggs to cheer up!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can be a real downer! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Test out these suggestions instead!
