Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood
Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should avoid them. Often, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that actually can boost your moods when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Try consuming a few eggs to feel better!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent if you want to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.
Some grains are really wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be healthier. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods as well!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Go with these suggestions instead!
