Learn How to Boost Your Mood with Food

A lot of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must avoid them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. A number of foods really do boost your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to discover, are fantastic at battling depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try eating some eggs to jolly up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a great protein source.

If you would like to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.

Grains can be good for overcoming a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling starved can truly make you feel terrible! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You knew green tea could help you become better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Test out these tips instead!
