Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

In general, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are some foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating a few eggs to jolly up!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to fight depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were just anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you are aware that it can help you be happier as well!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
