Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really healthy and good for you. There are several foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are wonderful at combating depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Consume an egg and feel happier!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a great protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to beat back depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.

Some grains are truly great for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! These grains can improve your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be healthier. And now you know it can help improve your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
