Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Most of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must avoid them. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are several foods that, when you consume them, can better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you fight depression. You should make sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for boosting your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try consuming a few eggs to feel better!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel better. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping raise your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were simply expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be better. And now you know it can help raise your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try several of these instead!
