Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. A number of foods honestly do elevate your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to find out, are terrific at fighting depression. You must be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given time. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a super protein source.

If you would like to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

Grains can be good for overcoming a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling starved can truly bring you down! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not hard to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is really great for your mood. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try some of these instead!
