Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we need to stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are several foods that really can boost your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at dealing with depression. You should see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Consume an egg and feel better!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you wish to fight depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.

Grains can be excellent for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try several of these instead!
