Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at dealing with depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.

If you want to battle depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Some grains are really wonderful for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you feel better. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling hungry can be awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is truly great for your mood. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to lift your moods also!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
