Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food
Many of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to stay away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. A number of foods actually do improve your mood when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at dealing with depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating a few eggs to feel better!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for raising your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
If you would like to beat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.
Some grains are actually great for fighting off bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you know that it helps you to lift your moods also!
So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try some of these suggestions instead.
