Foods That Make You Happy

Many of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for improving your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a superb protein source.

If you would like to beat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping boost your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you drink green tea. And now you are aware that it can help you be happier too!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these hints instead.
