Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for you. Some foods honestly do improve your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to learn, are fantastic at fighting depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Try eating a couple of eggs to jolly up!

Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you wish to be in a better mood. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping increase your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can be terrible! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your glucose levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

See, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Test out these suggestions instead!
