Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood
Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are terrible and to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at fighting back depression. You must be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot happier!
Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, along with raising your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel better. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.
Grains can be good for overcoming a terrible mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you are aware that it helps you to elevate your moods also!
You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
