Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must stay away from them. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. A number of foods actually do boost your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to discover, are fantastic at battling depression. You need to be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Try consuming a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you want to feel better. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Grains can be great for overcoming a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full also which can actually help to improve your mood. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You already knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods too!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try several of these instead!
