Foods That Make You Happy

In general, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at dealing with depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat a couple of eggs to feel better!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.

If you would like to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.

It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel famished! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Test out these suggestions instead!
