Information on How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Many of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we need to stay away from them. Sometimes, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try consuming a few eggs to cheer up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.

If you would like to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.

Grains can be great for fighting a bad mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full too which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling famished can be a real downer! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these foods quicker than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were simply anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods also!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these tips instead.
