Foods That Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are several foods that actually can improve your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for elevating your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Consume an egg and jolly up!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.

If you want to battle depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

Grains can be good for driving away a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. They help you feel full too which can truly help to better your mood. Feeling famished can be a real downer! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest them faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also loosening up the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try some of these hints instead.
