Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

A lot of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and are to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. A number of foods honestly do boost your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at beating back depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Put together a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

Some grains are actually great for repelling bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to make your mood better. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try some of these instead!
