Foods That Make You Happy
Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to consume. Some foods honestly do boost your mood when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. You must make sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and feel better!
Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.
Grains can be wonderful for driving away a terrible mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling famished can really make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!
See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try several of these instead!
