Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood
Most of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. Some foods actually do improve your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, test out a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at fighting back depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Try eating an egg and be happy!
Make a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel happier. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
Grains can be good for overcoming a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you feel better. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling starved can be awful! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become better. And now you know it can help raise your mood also!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
