Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

Mostly, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. Some foods honestly do boost your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at beating back depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and be happy!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for improving your mood. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.

If you wish to beat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

Grains can be great for driving away a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can actually bring you down! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. You digest these foods quicker than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
