Foods That Make You Happy

Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that actually can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are great if you want to feel happier. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.

Grains can be excellent for driving away a terrible mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all great for helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling hungry can be awful! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these tips instead.
