Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Most of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we ought to keep away from them. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super healthy and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at fighting back depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating a couple of eggs to jolly up!

Put together a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, along with raising your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to fight depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

Grains can be great for fighting a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can truly bring you down! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become better. Now you are aware that it can help you be happier as well!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
