Foods That Can Make You Happy

In general, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that actually can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at beating back depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.

If you wish to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you feel happier. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard for your body to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your sugar levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become healthier. Now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
