Foods That Can Make You Happy

For the most part, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that actually can improve your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and feel happier!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.

Grains can be good for fighting a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. They can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. It’s not difficult to feel low when you are starving! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not hard to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods too!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try a few of these hints instead.
