Discover How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Many of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. A number of foods honestly do elevate your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to combat depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.

Grains can be good for overcoming a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can really help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel awful! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!

See, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Try these hints instead!
