Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that really can improve your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, you might be amazed to find out, are wonderful at combating depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Try to eat an egg and feel better!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for improving your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of improving your mood, can be a great source of protein.
If you would like to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.
It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you be happier. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel better. And now you know green tea can help you be happier as well!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Go with these suggestions instead!
