Foods That Make You Happy

A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for you. Several foods really do improve your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at beating back depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Try eating an egg and jolly up!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a super source of protein.

If you would like to beat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

Some grains are actually great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can really help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can be awful! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try several of these instead!
