Foods That Can Make You Happy

Mostly, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to find out, are fantastic at fighting depression. You must see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for raising your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are great if you wish to feel happier. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.

Grains can be great for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. It’s not hard to feel low when you feel hungry! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is truly great for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be healthier. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these tips instead.
