Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Many of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to eat. Several foods actually do improve your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for elevating your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!

Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a superb protein source.

If you would like to beat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Grains can be good for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. Feeling starved can be a real downer! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You probably already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Go with these tips instead!
