Foods That Make Your Mood Better
For the most part, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that actually can boost your moods when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you battle depression. You need to see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Eat a couple of eggs to jolly up!
Make a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for raising your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
Some grains are truly great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you be happier. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. Feeling hungry can be awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be better. And now you are aware that green tea can help improve your mood as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these hints instead.
