Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we have to stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can boost your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for elevating your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Consume an egg and feel happier!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, along with raising your mood, can be a great protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.

Grains can be great for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling famished can be a real downer! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your sugar levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Test out these hints instead!
