Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you fight depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Consume an egg and jolly up!
Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a super source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to feel better. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.
It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is truly great for your mood. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine.
