Foods That Can Make You Happy

In general, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are some foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and feel better!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a great source of protein.

If you would like to beat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full too which can truly help to improve your mood. It’s easy to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you drink green tea. And now you know green tea can help raise your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try several of these instead!
