Foods That Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be really nourishing and good for you. Several foods actually do boost your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

If you would like to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.

Some grains are really excellent for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to elevate your moods also!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
