Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to eat. There are several foods that really can raise your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at fighting back depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you raise your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try eating an egg and be happy!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.

If you would like to defeat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for fighting off bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. They can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your glucose levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try a few of these hints instead.
