Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

In general, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, can better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at fighting back depression. Just see to it that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for elevating your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and cheer up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. They can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. It’s not difficult to feel low when you feel famished! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood also!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
