Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food

A lot of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. Several foods honestly do boost your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Consume an egg and be happy!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you wish to fight depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.

Some grains are actually great for driving away bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can be awful! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your glucose levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
