Use Food to Boost Your Mood

For the most part, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you combat depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you boost your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Consume an egg and feel happier!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all great for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you want to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
