Information on How to Boost Your Mood with Food

For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to consume. Several foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to learn, are terrific at fighting depression. You need to see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for raising your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Eat an egg and feel happier!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to fight depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling starved can really make you feel terrible! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know it can help you be happier too!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
