Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be extremely healthy and good for you. Several foods honestly do boost your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to discover, are fantastic at fighting depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Eat a few eggs to feel better!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein food source.

If you wish to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you feel happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you are starving! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
