Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

Most of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we ought to keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to discover, are wonderful at fighting depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Try to eat an egg and feel better!

Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel famished! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest them faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these instead!
