Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we ought to keep away from them. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try consuming some eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for improving your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.

If you would like to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Grains can be wonderful for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea helps you to elevate your moods as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try some of these hints instead.
