Foods That Can Make You Happy

A lot of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that, when you consume them, could boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at fighting back depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Try eating some eggs to feel better!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to feel happier. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.

Grains can be good for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. It’s not difficult to feel low when you are starving! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to lift your moods too!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
