Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Most of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to eat. There are several foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at fighting back depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Consume an egg and feel better!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, on top of improving your mood, can be a super source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Some grains are actually excellent for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can actually help to improve your mood. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is truly great for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
